the Queen's dollhouse

I was wandering around the web when I found a very drool worthy dollhouse. It was made for the Queen Mary. It has working lights, a water system and two lifts! The clock in the hallway even chimes on the hour. Can you believe it? Oh to be a princess and told to go play in your room. No one would see me for hours at a time. I would want to be decorating the house myself though so hopefully she got to do that instead of just having her 'people' take care of it. I suppose running a country can be time consuming but what a way to unwind. I may not be for everyone, but I say that is a great perk. :)
Keep dreaming, I know I will!

freecycle dollhouse things

Ages ago I mentioned having some sort of freecycle sharing thing going here. I finally got on the ball and am now getting that started. Here are a couple of items that I have and don't need. The first is a brown plastic table and to show size there is a quarter on top. The second is a pile of chair pieces. They should make up four chairs but just in case I will say at least three! The last picture is of two red, plastic cribs. None of it is the best quality stuff but if anyone is interested in any of it just let me know and it is yours. Once I go through the rest of my dollhouse things I will post anything else I am willing to freecycle. If someone has something they want to add to share with others send me a picture and I will show that too. Take care everyone,

thrift shop finds

A couple of days ago I went to a nearby town to wander what I've nicknamed 'thrift shop ally'. On one stretch of street there are several thrift and second hand shops like Goodwill and Value Village. I had to go alone because my boys for some reason don't see the fun in that sort of thing, but I had a ball. To me it is an afternoon of treasure hunting. Sometimes I don't come away with too many great finds but this time I found a couple of treasures. The first picture is from a book of whimsical cross stitch patterns. The vase is one of a few that I bought. I am always on the lookout for some nice ones because I like to give cut flowers from my garden. If I don't happen to have any around I will use an empty can wrapped in paper, or an empty bottle, but I like to have some vases around just in case. I think my favorite find was the shoes though. Well, I am a girl after all. They are barely worn, and I ended up paying a measly 2 dollars! Ahhhh... happiness is.

my latest and greatest

I have been working for awhile on a more detailed carpet and it is finally done. I am quite proud of this one and I think it turned out really well. You will have to let me know what you think. I have two pictures of it in my web album. The link is at the side of the blog. I also added a purple and goldish yellow one that I recently finished. Check them out if you get a chance. In the meantime I am going to take some pictures of a couple of cool things I found while thrift shopping. Treasure hunting just makes me happy. :) Enjoy your evening everyone,

book review

I was browsing around my local library the other day and trying not to spend hours in there since I definately could! I found this book in the crafts section. Its an older book but it was actually really helpful. She has lots of good, frugal ideas as well as the instructions for making things. She suggests using buttons with a picture glued to the middle for a picture frame, or with foil for a mirror, or a paper clock face for a clock. Another tip is to use wide lace for curtains, to line stairs, or even a dust ruffle for a bed. One other thing I thought was cute was to use a paper clip for a towel rack or a tie rack. That would look nice in a bathroom with a more modern look I think.
There was lots more in the book. She has bigger projects to make such as various pieces of furniture, and even kitchen cupboards, and loads of interesting ideas for details. It is worth checking out anyway if your branch has it or can get a hold of it. It seems to be a little difficult to find any books on dollhouses even at chapters so when I find something like this that is actually useful I get very excited! I know, I know.. little things make me happy. Not really a bad way to be though I would say. :)
Hope everyone has a great weekend,

stitched items

Good afternoon,

I just wanted to let everyone know that I finally have some of my creations uploaded into an album so you can take a look at them and if you would like, even buy one. Until I work out a better system please email for details and prices for each item. For the most part I will charge $5 for the small ones and $10 for the large. Shipping should be between $2 and $5. I hope you like them and would love comments letting me know what you think. I can take requests too if you need something with particular colours or style. Check out the slide show at the side of the blog. Have a great day all,

garden

I love my garden. There is nothing better then sitting outside on a sunny day, sipping coffee, listening to the sounds of the pond and watching my garden grow. We are lucky to have moved to a home with some pretty amazing gardens already in place. I have tweaked and added a bit and they make me smile. There is something soothing about caring for a garden, and it is so nice to have the great weather to do it. In my opinion, everyone should have at least a small garden to gaze at. For now at least I hope you enjoy a few pictures of mine.

Good afternoon, and happy Canada day to all of us here in Canada. I hope everyone is enjoying the day. To add to the fun we have a winner for my first contest. And the winner is..... Mary from Miz Mary's Minis!! Congratulations Mary! Just email me at seapunk@gmail.com with your information and your choice of the four rugs and I will get it out to you. I was really happy with the response so I will have to do this again. I am hoping to get some up for sale too. If anyone has requests with pattern or colour just let me know. I aim to please.
